片山虎之助総務相は三日の閣議後の記者会見で､札幌市長再選挙について､
低投票率で当選者の得票が､前回選挙の最多得票を下回った場合でも､
｢法律の要件に合えば､当選は当選だ｣と述べ､現在の選挙制度をただちに
見直す考えがないことを明らかにした｡
また､共産党が公認候補として擁立した青山慶二氏の選挙運動を中止した
ことに対し｢選挙運動をきちんとするのが立候補の前提であり､問題だ｣と
批判した｡
